Design-build

In design-build, one team is responsible for both designing and building your mechanical system. Salmon Mechanical contracts the whole scope: working through close engineering partnerships, we design the HVAC and plumbing systems, then build them with our own crews. Instead of a design handed off to a contractor who’s never seen it, the people who install the system help shape it from day one. Fewer handoffs, fewer change orders, and one team to hold accountable from the first sketch to the final commissioning.

Construction Cost

Our knowledge of construction cost comes from the field. With over 45 years in mechanical contracting and construction, we bring real-world cost experience to every project. We maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and mechanical contractors to cost-check as we go, so we design with an accurate picture of what systems actually cost to build — and our cost of design is always competitive.

Efficiency

HVAC systems are the largest energy consumer in most buildings, so the design has a major impact on any organization — both functionally and financially. Good design balances initial cost, energy cost, and long-term maintenance. We know how to weigh all three so your system performs well the day it starts up and stays affordable to run for years after.

Constructability

Combining field construction experience with HVAC design means our plans have fewer problems when the project gets built. We put a priority on getting the plans right and well thought out before any duct is hung in the air. We also treat the other contractors on the job as team members — because a plan that respects how the building actually gets built is a plan that installs clean.

Why Design-Build Works

Traditional design-bid-build splits responsibility across an engineer, a general contractor, and a stack of subs — so when something falls through the cracks, no one owns it. Design-build puts design and construction under one roof and one contract. Industry research bears this out: a widely cited Penn State study found design-build projects were delivered roughly 33% faster and about 6% less expensive than design-bid-build, with fewer change orders along the way.
